Venur Dhananjay Kumar Alva is a former Union minister of India and a former Member of Parliament from Mangalore.Currently, He is serving as the Special representative of Government of Karnataka to the Union Government of India in New Delhi.

Early

Born in a Jain Bunt Family to P.A. Alva (Father) and Gunavathi Alva (Mother),Kumar completed his early education at Mahaveera College, Moodabidri earning the degrees B.Sc and late acquired a degree in Law from the Udupi Law College, Udupi and was a practicing lawyer for many years.

Political Career

Alva began his political career in the youth wing of Bharatiya Janta Party and later went on to become a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1983.With the rise of Bharatiya Janta Party in Karnataka,Alva went on represent the Mangalore constituency in the Lok Sabha four times and served as Union Minister thrice in the Government of India when the Bharatiya Janta Party was in power.He held the portifolios of Civil Aviation and Tourism in 1996,Union Minister of State, Finance from 1999-2000 and Union Minister of State, Textiles from 2000-2003
